Online Marriage Eligibility Requirements
Online Marriage services are available to almost everyone, with only a few exceptions. These are the eligibility requirements for applying for a marriage license online:
- Both spouses must be over 18 years of age (no exceptions)
- Both spouses must have an unexpired, government-issued photo ID or passport
- Both spouses must have separate, unique email addresses
- Spouses may not be related by blood in most cases (laws vary by location)
- If either spouse has been divorced within the past 60 days, a certified copy of the divorce decree is required
In addition to the eligibility requirements above for applying for a marriage license, couples must also have the following in order to use our services:
- You should both be comfortable using internet technology (email, websites, etc.) or have a friend or family member who can help
- You both need to be able to follow written step-by-step instructions provided in English, or have someone who can help
- You both need access to a smartphone or computer with a video camera* and a stable internet connection
- Both spouses must appear in person at the web conference, no proxies or substitutions
* Spouses may share the same smartphone, computer, and internet connection if they are in the same location, but still need to have unique email addresses for the marriage license application.
